Steigenberger Hotel in Schönefeld, Berlin Brandenburg International Airport
Architecture: Eike Becker
In front of the main hall of the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport lies a wide plaza, along which the buildings of numerous service providers are lined up. One of the largest buildings in this plaza - located on its south side and in the immediate vicinity of the glass terminal - is the Steigenberger Hotel.
The block-like building on an area about 74 metres wide and 57 metres deep reaches a height of 6 storeys. One enters the four-star hotel from the plaza through a 2-storey-high arcade. The concrete structure of the building is wrapped in slabs of matt natural stone.
With the exception of the reception and lobby just beyond the entrance, the entire ground floor is dominated by a conference centre. Its two largest meeting rooms can be connected to form a ballroom. The first to fifth floors accommodate the hotel's 322 single rooms, double rooms and suites. The clear height of all rooms is 2.8 metres.
