Roof construction for office and studio use
Architecture: Raumwerk Cologne
Two existing buildings from the 1960s form the entrance situation to the Kontrastwerk industrial estate in the creative quarter of Cologne Ehrenfeld.
The simple K1 and K60 depot buildings, former changing rooms, social rooms and offices were renovated to make them energy-efficient and are already being used as showrooms and for offices of various companies. The new roof structure rests as a freeform on top of the existing K1 building and sets a signal for the innovative development on the site.
With its light construction of wooden walls and a filigree steel ceiling, the building stands out and develops its own formal language, which is given its sculptural effect by the jointless building envelope with a light-coloured plastic coating. Large-format openings and special room heights give the offices an unusual, bright and open quality.
