The cycle of paintings entitled Dylan Paintings of German painter Maria Zerres is inspired by the most important biographical and musical facets in the life and work of the singer.
The passion and intellectual bite of Dylan’s music and poetry radiate from the radical naiveté and the conceptual, painterly hand of Zerres‘ art.
The exhibition, taking place during the 54th Venice Biennale, is a cooperative project between the Brigitte Schenk Gallery in Cologne, which has represented the artist for over fifteen years, and the new foundation of Heiner Friedrich, DASMAXIMUM, in Traunreut, Baveria.
Legendary founder of the Dia Foundation in New York and Cologne, Heiner Friedrich has kept a cycle of 60 paintings to be shown at the Foundation in Traunreut, beside works by Georg Baselitz, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Imi Knoebel, Uwe Lausen, Blinky Palermo, Arnulf Rainer and Andy Warhol.
From July onwards, the Foundation will be open to the public. In its unity, the painting cycle shown in Venice is meant to be seen as a closed body of work, and will be on view for four months from June to September.
The exhibition ́s curator, Alan Jones, author of the recent bestseller biography of Leo Castelli, has written a text for the catalogue accompanying the show. In addition, the catalogue includes a poem written especially for the exhibition, dedicated to Bob Dylan by the rock star Marilyn Manson.
